2015 July HGBNA meetingTuesday, July 21, we’ll hold our next HGBNA meeting, a very important one, which will feature a presentation by Tania Tully from the Raleigh Historic Development Commission
(6:30pm, Jenkins United Methodist Church, 725 North Boylan Avenue)

The Kids’ Table will be available so if you need to bring your using-crayons-age children in order to attend this critical meeting, please consider doing so. RSVP for your children with Elizabeth Miller at HGBNAkids@gmail.com so she and Zoe know how many will join in the fun.

Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you at the meeting! Any questions, contact Gina Fesmire.

No, the Kids' Table will not be this large, don't panic ;-)

No, the Kids’ Table will not be this large, don’t panic ;-)

Historic Glenwood-Brooklyn Neighborhood Association needs you at our monthly meetings! Folks with young children who don’t have sitters lined up often can’t make it over.

HGBNA will be setting up a supervised Kids’ Table where your at-least-crayon-using-age children can sit and have an engaging fun time with our volunteer Kid Wrangler, Zoe Miller from Filmore Street, a rising Junior at Broughton High. Her mom Elizabeth Miller will be in charge of the program.

This table will have coloring and craft supplies, along with Zoe, an experienced and well-loved local sitter.

If bringing your children will enable you to attend the meeting, please email Elizabeth at HGBNAkids@gmail.com to RSVP so we are properly prepared.

If you know of folks who could attend the meetings if they could bring their children, make sure they know this is available.

Our monthly meetings will become even more important as we get into the proposed projects and the effort to keep our zoning protections as we are remapped to the new zoning code. We also have the Glenwood Avenue median refurbishment project progress to report, and our upcoming Block Party June 7th. And there usually are other ideas brought up as folks start talking.

We look forward to as many neighbors as possible participating, and hope the Kids’ Table will help. Do you have any other ideas? Know of any other teens who would like to help? Please let us know, either at the meeting or email Elizabeth, also via discussion on NextDoor or Facebook.

Hi neighbors!

Remember that this Sunday’s block party will be from 3-7 pm at Adams and Filmore. This even is rain or shine! Please bring a dessert or a side dish to share. We hope to have Lucky Dog’s food truck there as well. Please reply if you would be willing to bring a table, and cross fingers for showers scattered far away from Glenwood Brooklyn!

Below are the meeting notes from our most recent meeting:

UDO – city council initiated HOD-S. Look for an information table at the block party to learn more about this initiative, and to get involved.

Median project and crosswalk. There has been progress on this and we will learn more about what monies are available to beautify the medians. Please keep in mind that we’ll be calling for volunteers eventually to help with the work.

Park cleanup – will be monthly. The next park cleanup date is scheduled for Saturday, June 27 from 9-10:30 am. Meet at the picnic shelter, and please RSVP by replying.

Broughton parking issue. Please look for more information about speaking to a representative of Broughton at an upcoming open forum about improving the Broughton-neighborhood relationship through better parking practices and solutions.

Neighborhood Safety. Continue to call 911 when you notice suspicious behavior. Every time, at the time.

Home Tour. An officer meeting will be before the next open forum on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 pm. Please plan to attend if you will be joining the tour committee. Please note that we need a committee of at least 4 to ensure that the tour is held this year!

Many thanks! We look forward to seeing many of you this Sunday!

HGBNA meeting May 19 2015

Don’t forget! Your neighborhood association is back to having monthly general meetings on the third Tuesday of every month, and the next one is on Tuesday May 19, 2015.

If you’d like to see a particular issue addressed, or want to bring up a topic, let Rachel know via the comment form or the HGBNA Forum email list.

We should hear about the status of the Glenwood Av. median refurbishment project, our Block Party coming up in June, and of course, zoning… so plan to be there. We may have a pilot plan to help those with children attend the meetings, look out for that notice.
